Robotic surgery

Imagine you are lying on a table in a hospital theatre.A robot is peering down  at you with a knife in its hand ready to cut your abdomen. The picture is scary, is it not?But it is  nolonger fiction but is becoming a fact.some expeienced and eminent surgeons have reported success in surgerieswith robots. y ou might have seen ROBO conducting a difficult delivery in the movie! But it will take many more years t o become a common practice.
Advantages: 1.Remote control surgery is possible 2.Greater precision and finesse will be possible.3.Lessertrauma and hospitalisation time.
Disadvantages: 1. High cost.At present  cost of installation is in rupees 4 crores and cost  of maintenance is forty lakhs per annum.2.Highly skilled and specially trained surgeons will be needed to control and operate the
system.3.patients may not have faith in the inhuman machine.4.Clinical judgement will still be with the human
surgeons.
anyway scientific progress will go on and it is for us to accept or reject according tomerits.Thecost may come down in futures as with all innovations. -ramanarao.muddu
